Update on Hurricane Gustav

August 29, 2008 (WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, spoke with Michael Chertoff, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and David Paulison, Administrator of FEMA to get assurance that preparations for Hurricane Gustav are underway so that the nation and the Gulf Coast are fully prepared for a Hurricane in the coming days. During the conversations, the Chairman went over plans that DHS and FEMA have released and is pleased with what was discussed.

Chairman Thompson issued the following statement:

“After my discussions with Administrator Paulison and Secretary Chertoff, I am very pleased with the preparations underway in the Gulf Coast. I wanted to assure the people of the Gulf Coast that we will be prepared and we will not repeat the problems of Hurricane Katrina.”
