Napolitano Joins Colleagues in Co-founding
House Water Caucus

(Washington D.C.)- Representative Grace F. Napolitano (D-Norwalk), Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Water & Power, joined her colleagues Jim Costa (D-Fresno), John Linder (R-Georgia), Bart Stupak (D-Michigan), and George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) yesterday in announcing the establishment of the bipartisan Congressional Water Caucus.

“The new Congressional Water Caucus will help to deliver critical information on our water supplies and will keep Congress informed on the clean water needs of our communities, families and businesses,” said Napolitano.  “It is exceedingly important that we prepare for increased drought patterns and unpredictable weather brought on by Global Warming.”

Napolitano will serve with her colleagues as a co-chair of the caucus, with goals of promoting dialogue on water access and availability, sustaining our water supplies and protecting water quality.  The caucus plans to provide timely, scientific information about water resources and water use though educational venues open to Members of Congress, their staff and other interested parties.

A recent USA Today report indicated drought spreading from California and Arizona to 11 other western states, as well as Minnesota which is experiencing its worst drought since 1976.  The Southeast is also experiencing severe dryness, and Lake Okeechobee in Florida, America’s second largest body of fresh water, broke a record for its all-time low water level.
