Amendments |
Thousands of bills are introduced in each session of Congress and as a member of the House, I have the opportunity to amend them before they are to become law. Amendments to bills allow members to add or remove language to or from a bill. Earlier this year, I amended the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007. The amendment would establish a program to coordinate with state and local governments to minimize the need for toxic inhalation hazardous materials to be routed through our communities. The amendment passed the House by a comfortable margin.
Local officials who were concerned about the transportation of hazardous materials through District 9 approached me earlier this year. I thought their concerns were valid and was happy to find a bill which would appropriately carry the language needed to guard against potential toxic spill incidents. A brief description of the amendment can be seen below.
H.AMDT.62 to H.R.1401: An amendment numbered 3 printed in House Report 110-74 to establish a program to coordinate with state and local governments to minimize the need for transportation of toxic inhalation hazardous materials by rail. |
