FIVE MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, INCLUDING ETHERIDGE, MORAN, AND BOYDA, WILL HEAR FARM BILL TESTIMONY FROM KANSAS FARMERS

TOPEKA, KS – On Tuesday, June 5, Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) and four other members of the U.S. House Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management will host a field hearing on the 2007 Farm Bill in Salina, Kansas. In addition to Rep. Boyda, attendees will include Subcommittee Chairman Bob Etheridge (D-NC), Ranking Member Jerry Moran (R-KS), Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), and Rep. Steve King (R-IA).

The hearing, which is open to the public, will explore the state of the agricultural industry in Kansas in advance of this year’s reauthorization of the Farm Bill. Several Kansas farmers will testify about their work and their needs from the federal government.

The Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management plays a key role in determining commodity payments under the federal Farm Bill. It jurisdiction includes programs and markets related to cotton, cottonseed, wheat, feed grains, soybeans, oilseeds, rice, dry beans, peas, and lentils; the Commodity Credit Corporation; crop insurance; and commodity exchanges.
