Since 1982, the annual Congressional Art Competition has showcased exceptional student art from many of the nation's 435 Congressional districts. An artwork selected by each Member of Congress is displayed for one year in a gallery in the Cannon Tunnel, the passage that connects the U.S. Capitol with the Cannon House Office Building. The gallery is a prominent attraction on Capitol tours, so the selected artwork will receive tremendous national exposure.

Runners-up will be displayed for the same time period in Boyda's Congressional offices in Washington, Topeka, and Pittsburg.

Boyda said, "I am truly excited to sponsor this year's Congressional Art Competition. I know how hard it can be for young artists to achieve exposure and recognition for their work, so I look forward to showcasing talented Kansas artists both in the U.S. Capitol and in my Kansas offices."

The art competition will be judged by a panel of Kansans with recognized artistic expertise. The confirmed judges are Cheryl Brown Henderson, President and CEO of the Brown Foundation; Roger Shimormura, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Arts at the University of Kansas; Lynne Green, Executive Director of Van Go; Patrick Woods, USD 501 School Board Member; and Karen Brady of the Kansas Arts Commission.
