Boyda Gets "A+" From Veterans Group

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) released its Congressional Report Card this morning, ranking Washington legislators on their performance in supporting soldiers and veterans. The bipartisan organization awarded Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) an “A+” for her commitment to our troops and veterans.

Rep. Boyda said, “I am extremely honored by this distinction. Supporting our military and our veterans has been, and will continue to be, one my highest priorities in Congress. Every day, thousands of our soldiers bravely serve in the face of danger and under the burden of combat. They do so gladly because they love their country. The very least we can do for these dedicated men and women, is to make certain their country takes proper care of them.”

IAVA graded Members of Congress in both chambers for their support on such issues as funding health care and expanding benefits for veterans, treating traumatic brain injury and the Wounded Warriors Assistance Act, along with the Joshua Omvig Suicide Prevention Act, the Veterans Guaranteed Bonus Act, Homes for Heroes and the Post 9-11 G.I. Bill.

Rep. Boyda has been a strong advocate for our military and veterans since taking office in January of 2007.  She secured federal dollars to build a new, much-needed hospital at Fort Riley and fought to successfully restore BRAC funding for the Second District of Kansas. Boyda pushed for a new Fort Leavenworth Chapel and authored language to repeal the Soldier Tax. That language has since been signed into law.
