Boyda Announces Grant to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation

FUNDS TO GO TOWARD TRIBAL POLICE DEPARTMENT TECHNOLOGY

TOPEKA, KS – Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) announced today that the United States Department of Justice has awarded a $147,990 grant to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

The U.S. Department of Justice awarded the grant as a part of their Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Tribal Resources Grant Program. The funds from this award will be put toward updating technology for the police department’s emergency response equipment.

“The Potawatomi Tribal Police Department is very pleased with the award,” shared Police Chief Sam Grant. “The award will primarily be used to upgrade radio communications equipment bringing our department in line with state-wide and regional interoperability plans for emergency communications.”

The updated equipment will continue to help the Potawatomi Nation remain current in emergency communications. It will also improve the tribe’s ability to effectively and efficiently work with the surrounding agencies in emergency situations to protect the health and safety of their residents.

Congresswoman Boyda stated, “The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation has my warmest congratulations on this well-earned grant. Technologically advanced radio communications equipment will improve the safety of Potawatomi Tribal residents and support an effective police force.”
