Boyda Sends Letter to U.S. Secretary of the Treasury: Don't Reward Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac CEO's

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) and New Hampshire Congressman Paul Hodes have written a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. Their letter asks that Fannie Mae CEO, Daniel Mudd and Freddie Mac CEO, Richard Syron, not be awarded golden parachutes for leading their companies into failure.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Syron could receive $15 million. Mudd’s severance package is valued at $14 million.

Representatives Boyda and Hodes wrote:

“This is outrageous. Taxpayers should not have to pay for these severance packages.

“If these companies were in such serious financial difficulty that they needed help to carry out their mission, they certainly don’t have money to spend on golden parachutes. If tax dollars must be used to benefit private companies, they must be used as prudently as possible.

“The investors and the American taxpayers have already suffered the losses from this failure. The failed management must also share in these losses. More importantly, nobody should be getting rich off of taxpayer dollars. We hope you will agree and we look forward to your reply.”
