Boyda to Address Lack of Affordable Housing Issue at Housing Conference in Humboldt

TOPEKA, KS – At the request of city officials, Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (Kansas Second District) will host a dialogue on housing from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 25, at the Humboldt Library Community Room in Humboldt, Kansas.

Boyda said, “A lack of affordable housing is an issue nationwide. Flooding in Kansas last spring certainly didn’t help the matter. Mix that in with the fact the nationwide mortgage market stopped functioning smoothly last summer, and there’s a real problem for many people. The purpose of Monday’s discussion is to discuss the region's needs, and to share state and federal options available to the area. I want to hear about the needs of Southeast Kansas and start a dialogue with state and federal housing authorities on what grant options may be available.”

Present at the Housing Conference will be Congresswoman Nancy Boyda, Gary Allsup, Executive Director of Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, Deena Hallacy, Pittsburg Community Development Housing Specialist, and Randy Snider, Area Director of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development. Representatives from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are also scheduled to attend.

Boyda said, “Everyone deserves a place to call home. Somewhere they can pull up a chair, prop up their feet and relax at the end of the day. That’s what Monday’s conversation will be all about.”
