Clyburn on Obama Security Team

Monday, December 1, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today commented on the announcement of President-elect Barack Obama’s security team: Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense, Eric Holder as Attorney General, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Susan Rice as Ambassador to the United Nations and General Jim Jones as National Security Adviser.

“President-elect Obama has assembled a well-tested national security team with the muscle, diplomatic skill and experience to manage the national security and international challenges America faces, including two wars, the persistent threat of terrorism and the spread of nuclear weapons.  The diversity, commitment and prominence of this distinguished group will help restore America’s place as a leader on the world stage.  President-elect Obama’s strong and decisive action during the transition to select stellar economic and security teams will build the confidence our nation needs as we work together to move the country in a New Direction.”
