Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke Expresses Support for Economic Recovery Package

WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today commented on remarks made by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke at a House Budget Committee Hearing in support of an economic recovery package. Chairman Bernanke said, “Consideration of a fiscal package by the Congress at this juncture seems appropriate.” Following are Clyburn’s remarks.
“I’m pleased to see Chairman Bernanke join the growing chorus of economists, lawmakers and experts calling for a significant economic recovery package to help create jobs and stabilize the economy. We provided the tools to address the credit crisis on Wall Street but now it’s time to address the job loss and personal financial security crisis on Main Street. The American people are hurting, and we need to take aggressive steps to heal our ailing economy and ease their pain.”
