WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement after passage of H.R. 3021, the 21st Century Green High-Performing Public School Facilities Act.

“Today, the New Direction Congress passed an innovative school construction bill that will refurbish our nation’s aging education structures and boost sectors of our sagging economy through the creation of new construction jobs.

“H.R. 3021 authorizes $6.4 billion for school construction projects for school modernization, renovation, and repair initiatives that will enhance teaching and learning in schools all across the country.  This worthwhile bill also authorizes $500 million over five years for public schools in the Gulf Coast region that were damaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

“Properly prioritizing the needs of our children and grandchildren means making sure that they have safe and productive surroundings in which to learn and develop their young scholastic minds.  Constructing modern schools will improve the academic performance of our students, increase the efficiency of our teachers, and boost our public school systems.”
