Rep. Foster Puts Troops and Veterans First
Votes to Pass Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill

Congressman Bill Foster (IL-14) voted to support our troops and veterans by voting for legislation that includes much-needed funding for veterans’ care.
“The brave men and women who serve or have served have put themselves in harm’s way to preserve our great country, and as Americans, it is our responsibility to take care of those who have taken care of us,” Foster said. “I am proud to support this historic commitment to our veterans, and I urge that the Senate and White House swiftly approve this legislation.”
The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill is a bipartisan measure that expands access to and strengthens the quality of veterans’ health care for the 5.8 million patients, including 333,000 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan by:
- Increasing enrollment in VA medical care for veterans making up to $28,430
- Strengthening mental health care for the growing number of veterans with PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury
- Providing veterans with advanced prosthetics, helping those who have lost limbs rebuild their lives
- Bolstering maintenance at VA medical facilities including Hines Hospital in Illinois, which serves veterans in the 14th district
- Increasing gas mileage reimbursement from 28.5 to 41.5 cents per mile for veterans traveling to get health care
- Expanding access to fee-based care for veterans in areas where VA does not offer services
The bill also boosts military construction so that our troops have better housing, health care and day care facilities as well as more effective training facilities.
The bill has been endorsed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled Veterans of America, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and AMVETS, among others.
