Chairmen Miller, Kildee Statement on Signing of the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007

Wednesday, December 12, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Reps. George Miller (D-CA), the chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, and Dale Kildee (D-MI), the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, issued the following statement today after President George W. Bush signed into law the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007.

“For four decades, Head Start has been providing millions of children with the opportunity to reach school age ready to learn and succeed – an opportunity that all children richly deserve. Congress acted on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis to strengthen and reaffirm this important national commitment to America’s children by passing the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007. Now, with this important bill signed into law, we have paved the way for a reinvigorated Head Start program that will improve the lives of many more children in the years to come.”
