Chairman Miller Announces New Staff for the Education and Labor Committee

WASHINGTON, DC -- Rep. George Miller (D-CA), Chairman of the Education and Labor Committee, today announced new hires for the majority staff of the Committee.

"I am excited to announce these talented new additions to the committee staff,"
 Miller said. "I look forward to working with them to achieve our goal of strengthening America's middle class."

Aaron Albright, 30, joins the committee as Press Secretary.  Albright returns to Capitol Hill after a stint in the American Bankers Association's public relations office.  He previously worked for former Rep. Peter Deutsch (D-FL) from 2001 to 2005 in various positions, including serving as Deutsch's communications director.  Albright, a native Hoosier, holds a degree in journalism from The George Washington University.

Jordan Barab, 53, joins the committee as Senior Labor Policy Advisor for health and safety after four years at the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. He served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Director of Labor for OSHA from 1998 to 2001, and directed the safety and health program for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees from 1982 to 1998.  He was also the creator and author of the award winning weblog, Confined Space. A native of Palos Verdes Estates, California, Barab is a 1975 graduate of Claremont McKenna College in California and received a Master's degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University in 1978.

Carlos Fenwick, 29, joins the committee as Policy Advisor to the Subcommitee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions. Fenwick has worked in the personal office of Congressman Rob Andrews, the chairman of the subcommittee, since 2000, most recently as Senior Legislative Assistant. Fenwick, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, has a Bachelor's from Middlebury College.

Jeffrey Hancuff, 24, joins the committee as a Staff Assistant for the Labor Staff.  Prior to joining the committee, he worked as an intern with the Government Accountability Project.  He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2004 with a degree in Mathematics and for two years lived at and managed a meditation center, the California Vipassana Center.

Jill Morningstar, 36, joins the committee as Education Policy Advisor. Morningstar previously served as a Senior Policy Associate at the Earl Warren Institute for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity at Boalt Hall, University of California at Berkeley School of Law. Prior to that, she was the Co-Director of Education and Youth Development at the Children's Defense Fund.  She worked on the authorization of No Child Left Behind while she was a Legislative Assistant to Senator Paul Wellstone from 1999-2002.  A native of Newton, Massachusetts, Jill received a Master's degree in Public Policy from U.C. Berkeley and her Bachelor's degree from Harvard University.  

Alex Nock, 35, joins the committee as Deputy Staff Director. Nock worked for the committee for a number of years before leaving in 2005 to become Director of the Commission on No Child Left Behind at the Aspen Institute. Nock had served as Education Coordinator for the committee's Democratic staff from 2002 to 2005 and as a Legislative Associate for the Committee from 1997 to 2002, working most closely with Congressmen George Miller and Dale Kildee. Prior to joining the committee staff, Alex worked for Congressman Matthew G. Martinez (D-CA); the Human Resources Subcommittee of the Education and Labor Committee; and Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD).  A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Washington, D.C., Nock holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland.
