Statement of Chairman George Miller on Reading First

Wednesday, March 7, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-CA), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, issued the following statement today:

"The latest report from the Inspector General reaffirms that the Bush administration's implementation of the Reading First program has been marred by mismanagement and conflicts of interest. Earlier this year, investigative staff from the Committee on Education and Labor began an investigation into the implementation of Reading First. That investigation is ongoing. The Committee will conduct hearings as part of that investigation in April."
