Topeka and DC Internships

Unpaid internships are available throughout the year, on either a full-time or part-time basis, in the Washington, D.C. and Second District (Topeka and Pittsburg) offices of Congresswoman Nancy Boyda. Internships are available to high school graduates and are commonly filled by undergraduate, graduate or law students.

Duties vary widely and include, but are not limited to: working with legislative staff and doing background research on legislative issues, processing mail and drafting responses to constituent mail, monitoring hearings, working with district aides to help constituents resolve problems with government agencies, working with district staff to seek sources of grants funding for constituents, working with press staff on press outreach, providing support work for schedulers and office managers, answering phones, and other staff support work.

All applicants must have strong people skills, a professional attitude, and excellent communication skills. Applicants with research experience and strong attention to detail are preferred for D.C.-based internships. Applicants with social work or journalism backgrounds are actively sought for Kansas-based internships. These internships are intended to be educational experiences; our offices will work with your institutions of higher education to help you obtain academic credit for interning.

To apply for an internship please submit a cover letter, resume, dates of availability, and a short writing sample of a professional letter. For internships in Washington, D.C., please submit to Kate Disinger at For internships in Kansas or for general inquiries, please contact Judy Jewsome at (785) 234-8111 or by email at
