Lugar Offices Offer Digital Television Conversion Coupon Applications

Coupon application also available online

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar’s offices now have television converter box coupon applications available.

Starting February 17, 2009, television stations will be required to broadcast in digital according to the Digital Television (DTV) Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005. The aim of the switch is to free up analog airwaves for public safety communications, including police, rescue squads and fire departments.

Individuals relying on an antenna for television service will need to purchase a converter box. Each household is eligible for two $40 coupons to offset the purchase of converter boxes. Individuals can apply for a coupon online (https://www.dtv2009.gov/ApplyCoupon.aspx) or visit one of Lugar's offices for a coupon application.

Televisions connected to cable or satellite will not be affected by the switch
