Lugar Community Center to Offer Digital Television Conversion Coupon Applications

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

The Richard G. Lugar Northeast Indiana Community Service Center is currently offering TV Converter Box coupon applications.  The Community Service Center is located at 6384-A West Jefferson Boulevard in Covington Plaza, Fort Wayne.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, at midnight on February 17, 2009, all full-power television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. Digital broadcasting promises to provide a clearer picture and more programming options and will free up airwaves for use by emergency responders.

Congress created the TV Converter Box Coupon Program for households wishing to keep using their analog TV sets after February 17, 2009. The Program allows U.S. households to obtain up to two coupons, each worth $40, which can be applied toward the cost of eligible converter boxes.

A TV connected to cable, satellite or other pay TV service does not require a TV converter box from this program.

The Richard G. Lugar Northeast Indiana Community Service Center has the coupons for digital converters available and more information in the office.  The Community Service Center is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additionally, more information on the analog television conversion can be found at www.dtv2009.gov  Please contact the Richard G. Lugar Northeast Indiana Community Service Center at 422-1505 or by email at fw_lugar@lugar.senate.gov for further assistance.
