Internship Application

An internship in the office of Senator Biden is an excellent way to learn firsthand about the American system of government. Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the United States Senate, assisting the Senator's professional staff with administrative, press, legislative and correspondence duties. Washington D.C.

Interns in the Washington, DC office will be able to observe firsthand the inter-workings and dynamics of the federal government. Working with the Washington staff gives students a chance to see how the Senate functions and how it interacts with the House of Representatives, the executive, and the judicial branches. Additionally, interns are encouraged to take advantage of everything Capitol Hill has to offer -- House and Senate debates, congressional hearings, seminars and speeches, research facilities and museums.

Wilmington

Internships in the Wilmington, Delaware office will allow students to learn how Senator Biden helps Delawareans resolve federal issues at the local level. Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience assisting the Senator’s professional staff with press, legislative, constituent and correspondence duties. Interns in the Wilmington, Delaware office are given a great deal of responsibility. In addition to working in the office, there are many outside events and meetings throughout Delaware interns attend and participate in. Intern projects and assignments will vary day-to-day depending on the immediate demands on the staff resulting in excellent exposure to all areas of the office.

Committee Internships

Senator Biden also offers internships with his staff on the Senate Foreign Relations and Judiciary Committees. Interns participate in both administrative work and research for committee staffers and must be able to work at least 24 business hours per week. For internships with the Foreign Relations Committee, American citizens of undergraduate age can fill out the online application and contact Democrat_Interns@foreign.senate.gov for more information. For Judiciary Committee internships, well-motivated law students can apply by sending a resume and cover letter to Biden_Intern@judiciary-dem.senate.gov.


Applicants must demonstrate an appreciation for the importance and seriousness of all aspects of office operations and must be prepared to accept the responsibility of working in the Senator’s office. Responsibilities include working in the Legislative Office, Press Office, and other general administrative activities. Only college students are eligible. Priority is given to Delaware residents who are undergraduate students in their junior or senior year of college.

Requirements

Interns work on a voluntary basis and do not receive financial compensation for their work.
Interns must commit to work full time during the summer. Fall and Spring internships may be on a part time basis but students must commit at least 2 days a week.

Sessions

Internship sessions run three times a year; Fall, Spring, and Summer.
