Bennett Comments on House Vote Rejecting Financial Rescue Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) today made the following comments after learning that the House of Representatives failed to pass the financial rescue plan:

“The House vote disposed of the financial rescue bill for now, but the crisis remains. I’ve spoken with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell who assures me the Senate will remain in session until some action has been taken to deal with the financial crisis facing our country.

“We must act urgently so Americans will be able to collect their paychecks, operate their small businesses and get mortgages and student loans. While most Americans are not responsible for creating this problem and are understandably upset that they are being asked to step in, I am convinced that not acting is not an option.  We must work to pass a financial rescue package that contains strict oversight while giving the Secretary of the Treasury the authority needed to prevent a fiscal meltdown and minimize the risk to taxpayers.”
