Local Chamber of Commerce Salutes the Congresswoman's Commitment to Cutting Taxes and Support of Upstate Small Business March 5, 2007 Clifton Park, NY- Today Congresswoman Kirsten E. Gillibrand was presented by the Chamber of Southern SaratogaCounty with a pair of golden scissors to represent what a great tax cutter she has been in Congress. Congresswoman Gillibrand recently co-sponsored the Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2007( HR 976) which passed the House of Representatives last month. The scissors were presented by the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County President and CEO, Peter Aust in Clifton Park. "We applaud our new congresswoman for recognizing the importance of small business in both our communities and throughout the state as job creators and drivers of our region's economy. Her co-sponsorship of this legislation strongly indicates her commitment to insuring that small businesses receive the tax cuts needed to remain competitive, create jobs and succeed in this global economy." Peter Aust, CEO and President of the Southern Saratoga Chamber said today. Before the event, Congresswoman Gillibrand met with over 40 business leaders' who represented a wide range of industries, including those from healthcare, high-tech, education, retail, and the banking communities to listen to their concerns. "Our small businesses pay too much in taxes," said Rep. Gillibrand, "I look out in this room today and see the hard work and diversity of your successful businesses. It is to all of our benefit, that you continue to prosper and create good paying jobs right here in Upstate New York ". The Small Business Tax Relief Act of 2007 which passed the house last month with broad bipartisan support is a revenue-neutral tax cutting package that would extend critical tax provisions for small business owners. The legislation was endorsed by the US Chamber of Commerce, the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Coalition, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. In addition to cutting taxes for small businesses, Congressman Gillibrand has stated that she will make cutting taxes for middle class families a priority in Congress. # # # |
