Rep. Gillibrand Announces National Oral History Project Visits to Glens Falls & Saranac Lake | Print |

Glens Falls, NY – Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the Library of Congress’ National Oral History Project, StoryCorps, will visit Glens Falls and Saranac Lake in the coming weeks.  StoryCorps is an oral history project that provides participants the opportunity to interview family members, friends, co-workers, and area residents who have made an impact on the community and the lives around them.  These stories are archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, as well as broadcasted on National Public Radio.  The project’s goal is to help link the past and future through the life experiences and wisdom of others.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Upstate New York to have their stories archived for posterity,” said, Congresswoman Gillibrand, a Member of the House Armed Serviced Committee.  “I am pleased to welcome StoryCorps to the North Country, and to have the unique stories of the people of our region shared with the rest of the country.”

“North Country Public Radio is thrilled to bring StoryCorps to Saranac Lake and Glens Falls as part of our 40th Anniversary Celebration,” said NCPR Membership Director June Peoples.  “We’re especially grateful to the Village of Saranac Lake and the Glens Falls Centennial Committee for their enthusiasm and support. Both have been instrumental in making the project happen.”

Since its launch in October 2003, StoryCorps’ mobile recording trailer has visited 66 cities in 43 states, collecting more than 10,000 stories.  Hosted by North Country Public Radio, the famous StoryCorps Airstream trailer will be available to the public at Pontiac Bay Park in Saranac Lake from June 19 through 29, and also in Glens Falls City Park from July 2 through 12.

To make interview reservations and to listen to excerpts of stories, please visit www.ncpr.org or call 800-850-4460.

Last year, the Congresswoman teamed with the New York State Military Museum and the Library of Congress to support the New York State Veteran Oral History Program.
