Funds Part of $2.3
Million Dollars Awarded to 20th District First Responders
Saratoga Springs, NY
– Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the West
Charlton Fire District in West Charlton, Saratoga County
was awarded $31,017 from the Assistance to Firefighters Program under the
Department of Homeland Security.
“These
funds are critical to meeting the needs of our first responders and ensuring
that they have the very best equipment to carry out their brave service on
behalf of our communities,” said Congresswoman Gillibrand, a Member of the
House Armed Services Committee. “Many of
our rural fire districts are facing challenges in maintaining their equipment -
the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is critical to helping our local
first responders overcome these challenges.”

Arnold, Funding Coordinator for the West Charlton Fire District said, "On
behalf of the West Charlton Fire District, I'd like to thank Congresswoman
Gillibrand for her support for this grant.
These funds will be used to purchase additional equipment that is
critical for our operations including new radios, portable water tanks, smoke
ventilator and an accountability system."
Recently,
the Congresswoman announced that she will be sponsoring legislation that will
provide our volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians with a
$1,000 tax credit. Since taking office
Congresswoman Gillibrand has announced nearly $2.3 million dollars in
investment for first responders in all 10 counties represented by the
Congresswoman. The Assistance for
Firefighter program is a competitive grant program for firefighters and
emergency responders administered by the Department of Homeland Security. Funds can be used for the purchase of new
vehicles, training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and
fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
