(October 23, 2007) Gillibrand Statement on Airline Safety Report | Print |
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Earlier today it was reported by the Associated Press that NASA had conducted a survey which found considerable safety concerns with airline travel but refused to release the data from the survey. In response, local Congresswoman Gillibrand issued the following statement:

"The taxpayers paid for this study and they deserve to know what it says. I plan on writing a letter to NASA today, calling on them to make the results of this study available to the public and the media, on-line as soon as possible.

"The public has an absolute right to know about what is in this report.

"As a mother who frequently travels with my three year old son, I believe this information can be helpful in making sure we do all we can to improve air travel safety.

"For some time now, I have been growing increasingly concerned with air safety, specifically in regard to the stresses placed on our air traffic controllers and their work conditions. News reports of this study only fuel my concerns."
