Saratoga Springs, NY - Today, local Congresswoman
Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the Rexford Fire District received
$14,692 in federal grants from the Department of Homeland Security,
Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program. The Rexford Fire District
serves Rexford, NY and surrounding communities in the Clifton Park
area.
"Our brave first responders provide critical services for the safety
and security of our local communities," said Congresswoman Gillibrand,
a Member of the House Armed Services Committee. "These funds will be
used to improve the quality of services that the Rexford Fire District
provides for our neighbors."
Last April, the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security announced the beginning of the fiscal
year 2007 application period for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant
(AFG) program. The program makes more than $492 million available for
the awards. Funding may go toward activities such as training,
equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and
health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
The
Congresswoman, who recently gave the keynote speech at the opening of
the New York State Firemen's Home located in Hudson, announced that she
will soon co-sponsor legislation that will provide a $1,000 tax credit
for volunteer firefighters and EMS crews.
