Glens Falls, NY  - Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced made a major grant announcement for Walker Farms located in Fort Ann in Washington County.  Walker Farms will receive $310,148 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program for the purchase of an anaerobic digester, manure renewable energy system for the farm.

"I am very excited to announce this major grant award," said Congresswoman Gillibrand, a Member of House Committee on Agriculture.  "The preservation of our farms is central to the future character of upstate New York.  This project not only will preserve important farming jobs, but also reduce the odors associated with our livestock farms, and improve the environment of our communities."

The manure processing system will produce renewable energy to replace over 1,000,000 kilowatts of power and over 5,500 of propane used by the farm.
