Last April, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the beginning of the fiscal year 2007 application period for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The program makes more than $492 million available for the awards.  Funding may go toward activities such as training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.

The Congresswoman, who recently gave the keynote speech at the opening of the New York State Firemen's Home located in Hudson, announced that she will soon co-sponsor legislation that will provide a $1,000 tax credit for volunteer firefighters and EMS crews.
