Hudson, NY- Local Congresswoman Kirsten E. Gillibrand
(NY-20) today announced a $26,000 grant award for Argyle Cheese
Factory, LLC from the Rural Development office of USDA. These funds
will be used to provide the working capital needed for this new
value-added venture business that will process and market farm-fresh
cheese, yogurt, and milk.
Congresswoman Gillibrand also recently supported the bipartisan Farm
Bill which provides the largest increase ever, in assistance to Upstate
New York. This bill included an increase in funding for the
Value-Added grant program as well as an extension of the successful
MILC safety net program for dairy farmers - something that
Congresswoman Gillibrand fought to have included in the baseline and
incorporated into the Farm Bill.
"This is
a great opportunity for Argyle Cheese Factory," said the
Congresswoman. "The future of New York agriculture depends and the
entrepreneurship and creative marketing of our farmers and I am pleased
that the Argyle Cheese Factory has received this support to grow and
expand their business."
Argyle Cheese
Factory is located on Fairview Farm, a 225-acre, 4th generation
family farm producing award- winning Holstein cows' milk since the
1860's. Argyle Cheese Factory is the region's newest farmstead
cheesemaker. In addition to cream-topped milk and yogurt, the creamery
produces a variety of fresh and aged cows' milk cheeses.
The
Congresswoman's office maintains a clearinghouse and online newsletter
