Delhi, NY - Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the Protective Fire Company has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant for $79,800.  This funding is part of the Operations and Safety program which provides vital assistance to the firefighters that serve the community. "I am proud to provide financial support for our local fire departments," said Congresswoman Gillibrand, a Member of the Armed Services Committee.  "Our rural communities depend on the ability of their fire departments to protect them and provide them with peace of mind."

Last April, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the beginning of the fiscal year 2007 application period for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The program makes more than $492 million available for the awards.  Funding may go toward activities such as training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
