Hudson, NY – Today, local Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand announced a $20,190 Department of Homeland Security, Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program Award for the Valatie Rescue Squad in northern Columbia County. The grant, under AFG's Operations and Safety program, will be used to improve services for the residents of Valatie, Kinderhook, Stuyvesant and the surrounding communities.

"These funds will be used for personal protective equipment for our Emergency Medical Service providers," said Administrator Scott Bowman. "We are very thankful to DHS and Congresswoman Gillibrand for their support."

Congresswoman Gillibrand said, "Our rural emergency services are so critical to the safety and security of our communities. I'm very thankful for this grant award."

The Valatie Rescue Squad, now in its 72nd year, is the primary emergency response service for northern Columbia County, and provides additional programs such as CPR and First Aid courses for the community.
