WASHINGTON - A local high school student is getting a close look at the inner workings of Congress. Evan James Kolb, a Boonville High School student, is serving as a Congressional page in Washington, DC this fall. Pages play an important role in Congressional business: acting as couriers, delivering messages to Members of Congress, and performing other duties. Rep. Brad Ellsworth sponsored Kolb's appointment and commended him on his service to Congress and the country.
"Evan represents the best southern Indiana has to offer: he is smart, talented, and dedicated to giving back to his community and country," said Ellsworth. "I am proud of the excellent job he has done on Capitol Hill and the way he has represented the people of the 8th District."
Kolb was selected for his academic performance, as well as his extracurricular activities and community involvement. He is a member of the debate and soccer teams, and participated in the spring musical at Boonville High School. In addition, he is interested in the democratic process and has volunteered on several political campaigns.
While in Washington, the Congressional pages live in a supervised residence hall on Capitol Hill and attend Page School, which is accredited and offers junior year curriculum to the students. Kolb will conclude his page responsibilities on January 23, 2009.
