Members of Congress may nominate a limited number of candidates to the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine academies each year. The four Academies require a Congressional nomination as part of their application process.

To be considered, applicants must reside within the 8th Congressional District and meet the necessary admissions requirements. In addition, applicants submitted an application and essay and underwent an interview process. The nominees were chosen based on their academic performance, leadership ability, moral character, and commitment to attending a service academy.

The nominees will now compete for appointments to their respective Academies for the class of 2013.
