Rep. Klein Votes to Cut Taxes for Over Seven

Million Floridians

Congressman supports comprehensive economic stimulus package to strengthen economy

January 29, 2008

(Washington, DC) – U.S. Rep. Ron Klein (FL-22) voted today to pass the Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act, a wide-ranging bill to provide tax relief to over 117 million American families and help with the economic hardships being faced by citizens across our nation.

The broad-based stimulus package will provide tax relief of up to $600 per individual and $1,200 per married couple, plus an additional $300 per child.  The legislation will also expand financing opportunities for Americans in danger of losing their homes because of the mortgage crisis.

"I am pleased to have the opportunity to provide much-needed tax relief to over seven million Florida residents," Rep. Klein stated.  "This stimulus package will provide our state with $6.5 billion dollars in tax cuts, averaging almost $900 per family.  With hard working Floridians struggling to make ends meet in the slowing economy and prices for gas, groceries, and health care continuing to rise, we are working to provide immediate relief."

The bill will also double the amount that small businesses can write off their taxes for new investments.  The immediate tax relief provided under the legislation will allow businesses to focus on investing in new plants and equipment, and in turn will create more American jobs.

Rep. Klein continued, "We must make it a priority to encourage the expansion of American businesses and enterprises.  This legislation promotes an increased investment in our nation's small businesses, which will spur job creation here at home."
