Klein Addresses 2008 Everglades Coalition Annual Conference

Congressman participates in the largest annual forum on Everglades conservation

January 11, 2008

(Captiva Island, FL) – U.S. Rep. Ron Klein (FL-22) today joined non-profit, government and private representatives to discuss Everglades conservation and restoration at the 2008 Everglades Coalition Annual Conference.  Klein’s participation in the conference is part of a larger emphasis on Everglades restoration that began for him in the Florida House and Senate, and now extends to his work in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“As a former State Senator who helped author the Everglades Forever Act, I was frustrated that the federal government was not living up to its end of the agreement with state and local governments to jointly fund Everglades restoration.  The recent passage of the Water Resources Development Act, has broken through the gridlock and federal funding and will finally be restored for Everglades conservation efforts.

“But our efforts to restore the Everglades cannot just end there.  We must continue to carry over the bipartisan spirit that helped us to pass the WRDA bill and push for full and complete funding of conservation and restoration projects.  We have the opportunity to protect this national treasure, and must not stop until our work is complete.”
