Fort Lauderdale, FL -- U.S. Rep. Ron Klein (FL-22) will hold a press conference on Monday, December 10, to announce the passage of sweeping bipartisan energy legislation, the Energy Independence and Security Act. The press conference will take place Monday, at 3:30 PM, at the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 Southwest 2nd Street in Fort Lauderdale.
"This bipartisan, common-sense legislation will put us on a path toward energy independence. We should never, ever have to make another foreign policy decision based on where the next drop of oil is coming from. This bill will strengthen our national security, lower energy costs, create jobs, and reduce our impact on global warming," Klein said. "Becoming energy independent is a goal I’ve been working on for over 20 years -- and that goal has never been more important than it is right now. This is the calling for our generation."

This historic legislation takes our country in a New Direction on energy policy that:
- Increases the fuel efficiency of vehicles for the first time in 32 years, to 35 mpg by 2020 (CAFE)
- Makes an historic commitment to American-grown biofuels for vehicles (Renewable Fuels Standard)
- Requires for the first time that 15 percent of our electricity come from renewable sources (Renewable Electricity Standard)
- Sets landmark new energy efficiency standards for a wide range of products, appliances, lighting and buildings
- Invests $50 Million in marine renewable energy critical to South Florida
