Klein, Mahoney Discuss Legislative Accomplishments during First 100 Hours of Congress

{Map Way Forward on Insurance Reform in Congress}

Washington, DC – Congressmen Ron Klein (FL-22) and Tim Mahoney (FL-16) today held a joint press conference on key measures passed in the First 100 Hours Legislative Package to improve the everyday lives of Floridians.   They also discuss their new role as leaders on insurance reform in Congress.

Democrats passed six major bills with bipartisan support in the first 100 legislative hours of the 110th Congress. This legislation addressed ethics reform, fiscal responsibility, stem cell research, raising the minimum wage, implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations, cutting the interest rate on student loans, and investing in renewable and alternative energy.

"During the first 100 Hours of Congress, we hit the ground running, and many of the promises I made to my constituents over the last year have already won the support of the House of Representatives," said Klein. "From restoring integrity to Washington by strengthening ethics laws, to passing stem cell research that bring promise and hope to all generations, to passing an energy plan that brings us one step closer to achieving energy independence, our new Congress is committed to working in a bipartisan manner to get the job done for the American people."

"In the first 100 Hours of Congress we have already made significant progress in improving the everyday lives of Floridians and people throughout the nation.   We have taken the first step in delivering on our promise to restore American values to Washington by restoring integrity and fiscal responsibility to Congress, working to make America energy independent, implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations, supporting stem cell research, cutting the rates on student loans, and raising the minimum wage," said Congressman Tim Mahoney (FL-16).

This week, Congressman Barney Frank (MA-04), Chairman of the Financial Services Committee, tapped Congressmen Klein and Mahoney as leaders on insurance reform in Congress.   Klein and Mahoney both sit on the Financial Services Committee, which overseas the insurance industry.

"I have been working hard on insurance reform for years in the state legislature, and I look forward to working work with both parties in Congress to actually get something done in Washington. While past Congresses have been unsuccessful, we will deliver some relief to homeowners," said Klein.

"The leadership realizes the importance of insurance reform and is committed to making it a priority.  This is the number one issue facing the people of Florida.  We are committed to working on a bipartisan basis to get results for Florida homeowners including some much needed relief from skyrocketing premiums," said Congressman Mahoney (FL-16).
