I am privileged to serve on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Financial Services. On the Foreign Affairs Committee, I have worked to promote our national security by decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, assess our Middle East policies, demand accountability in Iraq and promote a responsible foreign policy based on cooperation with our international allies. On the Financial Services Committee, I continue to advocate for relief for Floridians from the high cost of homeowners insurance through the creation of a national catastrophe fund, and am working to address the subprime mortgage crisis. House Committee on Financial Services

The House Financial Services Committee oversees the entire financial services industry, including insurance, securities, banking and housing. The Committee has oversight of the Security and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve and U.S. Department of Treasury, among other regulatory bodies.

On this committee, Congressman Klein serves on the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises and the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.

**Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises. This subcommittee is responsible for overseeing U.S. policy in the capital markets and for ensuring the transparency and integrity of those markets. On this committee, Congressman Klein will have the opportunity to promote policies that will provide the greatest possible investor protection and ensure all investors are treated fairly. The Committee also has oversight responsibility for the insurance industry and for a number of government-sponsored enterprises.

**Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. This subcommittee has oversight of the entire U.S. banking industry, which includes over 22,000 banks, thrifts, and credit unions. Congressman Klein is committed to making sure that consumers have the opportunity to receive fair participation in the banking industry while being protected from abusive lending and information-sharing practices.


 

House Committee on Foreign Affairs

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs has jurisdiction over a wide-range of relations with foreign nations, including: acquisition of land and buildings for embassies and legations in foreign countries; establishment of boundary lines between the United States and foreign nations; export controls, including nonproliferation of nuclear technology and nuclear hardware; foreign loans; international commodity agreements (other than those involving sugar), including all agreements for cooperation in the export of nuclear technology and nuclear hardware; International conferences and congresses; international education; intervention abroad and declarations of war; diplomatic service; measures to foster commercial intercourse with foreign nations and to safeguard American business abroad; international economic policy; neutrality; protection of American citizens abroad and expatriation; the American National Red Cross; trading with the enemy; and United Nations organizations.

On this committee, Congressman Klein serves on the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade and the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere.

**The Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia. Klein serves as the Vice Chair of this subcommittee, which provides the him a unique opportunity to provide leadership on Middle East policy in Congress, and the opportunity to strengthen the United States’ partnership with our sister democracy, Israel.

**Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade. This committee has oversight and legislative responsibilities over the United States’ efforts to manage and coordinate international programs to combat terrorism as coordinated by the Department of State and other agencies, including diplomatic, economic, and military assistance programs in areas designed to prevent terrorism.

**The Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere. By serving on this subcommittee, Klein is able to address critical issues in U.S.-Latin America relations. This committee’s jurisdiction includes loans, foreign assistance and disaster aid to countries in the region, legislation and oversight regarding human rights practices, oversight of regional lending institutions and oversight of matters related to the regional activities of the United Nations, of its affiliated agencies, and of other multilateral institutions.
