(Pittsburgh, PA) -- U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today issued the following statement praising the formal recognition of Pittsburgh, PA and Danang, Vietnam as Sister Cities. From 1991 to 1996, Altmire was a Legislative Aide to U.S. Congressman Pete Peterson, a decorated Vietnam veteran and former POW. Peterson was one of Congress’ leading experts concerning Vietnam and served as the United States’ first Ambassador to Vietnam from 1997 to 2001.
“I am confident that a stronger relationship with Vietnam can greatly benefit western Pennsylvania. As Danang’s official Sister City, Pittsburgh and its business community will be able to form relationships that can help us successfully pursue opportunities in one of the world’s fastest growing economies. Continuing to strengthen the ties between Pittsburgh and cities worldwide is absolutely vital to ensuring our region will thrive in the global economy.
“I look forward to seeing the new business partnerships and cultural exchanges that will grow out of this relationship in the years to come.”
