Energy Town Hall Brings Together Local Leaders
On July 21, 2007, at the Cranberry Municipal Building, Congressman Altmire brought together representatives from the energy industry, environmental leaders, academics, and policy makers to discuss how we can pursue smart energy solutions that are good for the economy, environment, and our national security.
Promoting Local Economic Development
On February 12, 2008, Congressman Altmire met with Cranberry Township Manager Jerry Andree and Chairman of the Board of Township Supervisors Richard Hadley in Washington, D.C., to discuss how they can continue to work together to boost economic development in Cranberry Township and throughout western Pennsylvania. Last year, Congressman Altmire secured $750,000 in federal funding to upgrade Freedom Crider Road, strengthening economic ties between Cranberry Township and the rest of the region.
Veterans Advisory Board Meeting in Cranberry
Congressman Altmire continued his series of regular meetings with veterans from all six counties in the Fourth Congressional District to listen to their views on how he can best serve western Pennsylvania’s veterans and their families.
Working to Create Local Jobs in Buffalo Township
On February 5, 2008, Congressman Altmire met with the Buffalo Township Board of Supervisors and Butler County Planning Commission to discuss developing a business park in Buffalo Township. This project aims to create an incubator capable of meeting the needs of emerging technology companies.
 Congressional Arts Competition
Every year, the Congressional Arts Caucus invites each Member of Congress to submit one piece of artwork created by a high school student from his or her district. On April 21 2007, Congressman Altmire held an event in Cranberry to display the artwork received by his office as part of the competition and to announce the winner. Ms. Kari Juranowitch of Deer Lakes High School won the 2007 competition with her painting, “A Look Ahead.” Her artwork was displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and she won a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Small Business Workshop
In June, Congressman Altmire kicked off his Summer Small Business Workshop Series in Cranberry. The workshops were designed to help local entrepreneurs start, develop and expand their businesses. Congressman Altmire brought representatives from the Department of Defense to Cranberry to help local entrepreneurs write successful proposals so that they can partner with the federal government. Delivering Economic Development Funding
Congressman Altmire secured $5.2 million in federal funding for II-VI Incorporated, located in Saxonburg. II-VI will use the funding to create domestic sources to produce the materials used in high-powered solid state lasers needed by the Department of Defense.
