Helping Lawrence County Homeowners Facing Foreclosure

On March 26, 2008, Congressman Altmire and the Lawrence County Community Action Partnership held a press conference on their efforts to help the rising number of Lawrence county homeowners facing foreclosure. Over the past year, Congress has taken several steps to address the housing crisis including enactment of the Economic Stimulus Package, which will expand affordable mortgage refinancing opportunities for families at risk of foreclosure. Improving Safety, Advancing the I-376 Project
Congressman Altmire successfully advanced the designation of the future I-376 corridor as part of legislation signed into law this June.  Last year, he obtained $750,000 in federal funding for safety upgrades to the Route 60/422 interchange in Union Township. This interchange must be improved in order to be officially designated as I-376. Once finished, I-376 will create a seamless commercial corridor from the Pittsburgh International Airport through Lawrence County to help lure new businesses and jobs to the region.  For more information, see: Altmire's I-376 Clarification Cleared for President's Signature.

Modernizing Jameson Hospital’s Emergency Department

Congressman Altmire secured $296,000 in federal funding for construction and upgrades of the emergency department at Jameson Hospital in New Castle. For more information, see:  Altmire Secures $60 Million to Support Western Pennsylvania Economy.

Helping Lawrence County’s Volunteer Fire Departments
Last year, Congressman Altmire helped volunteer fire departments in Lawrence County secure $147,000 in federal grants. Volunteer fire departments in Hickory, South New Castle, and Wurtemburg-Perry received grant funding which will help them purchase new equipment for the various departments.

axion.jpgCreating Jobs and Promoting Innovation
Congressman Altmire secured $1.2 million in federal funding for Axion Power International of New Castle. Axion will use this funding to develop a new power source for the military, a hybrid capacitor supercell that will be lighter, more reliable, more environmentally friendly, and less costly than currently used power sources. The project will create up to 80 jobs in Lawrence County and keep western Pennsylvania at the forefront of innovation.

On April 9, 2007, Congressman Altmire held a town hall at the American Legion in New Castle. At the town hall, he answered questions from local residents about the economy, health care, education, energy, veterans, and the war in Iraq.
