Securing Funds For Economic Growth
Congressman Altmire and Congressman English secured $800,000 in federal funding for Hermitage for construction of a technology innovation and development center at the LindenPointe Innovative Business Campus. The technology center will help draw new businesses to LindenPointe and to Mercer County, boosting economic development and creating jobs for Mercer County residents. Funding for the project is expected to lead to 200 new jobs and $2 million in private investment.

Helping Workers Save For Retirement
On August 20, 2008, Congressman Altmire and Congressman English held a joint town hall meeting in Shenango Township to discuss retirement security. The Congressmen spoke with area residents about the Automatic IRA Act (H.R. 2167), which would help small business employees save for retirement by automatically enrolling them in an individual retirement account (IRA). Employees would have the ability to opt-out, and small business owners would get a tax credit to offset administrative costs. Congressman Altmire spoke about the importance of ensuring economic security for Pennsylvania’s working families.
