WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai’i) today announced a $200,000 U.S. Department of Labor grant to fund the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program at Kalaeloa, O’ahu.

Under the direction of the non-profit organization United States Veterans Initiative-Hawai’i, the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program provides pre-employment training, job placement, and job retention services to qualified applicants, in the ongoing effort to get homeless veterans back into the labor force to stay.

United States Veterans Initiative-Hawai’i enrolls some 400 homeless veterans annually in programs that involve transitional and permanent shelters, substance abuse counseling and treatment, job counseling and referral, employment assistance, transportation, housing and clothing.
