Congresswoman Hirono Announces Federal Funding For Hawaii Department of Public Safety
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai'i) today announced a $246,000 grant from the Department of Justice to provide funds for the Hawaii Department of Public Safety.
This grant award provides funds from the FY 07 Crime Victims Fund to enhance State victim compensation payments to eligible crime victims. Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) compensation funds provide financial assistance to Federal and State victims of crime.
A minimum of 40 percent of the total grant will be awarded by giving 10 percent to each of 4 categories of crime victims: sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and underserved. Underserved victims are designated by type of crime and are determined by the state grantee.
