Dreier To Join Energy Protests on House Floor

August 14, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA) will return to the Capitol this Friday to join his fellow House Republicans in protesting the Democratic Majority’s refusal to allow real debate on a comprehensive energy policy.  House Republicans have been engaged in an historic protest on the floor of the House throughout the traditional August recess, engaging the American people about how to achieve real energy solutions and calling on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to bring the House back to work.

“The American people have been struggling with the high cost of gas for months now, but little or no progress has been made in Washington,” Dreier said.  “House Republicans have been trying to get a vote on an all of the above energy policy - solar, wind, conservation, and responsible domestic exploration.  But we, and the American people, have repeatedly been shut out by Speaker Pelosi.  It’s time for the political games to end and the real work to begin.  We need to have a real, open debate on an energy policy that will bring gas prices down, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and create jobs here at home.”

Congressman Dreier is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 6566, the American Energy Act, a bill that provides an “All of the Above” energy strategy.  The bill would: eliminate red tape that restricts the construction of domestic refineries; promote renewable and alternative energy solutions like coal-to-liquid, wind, and solar; provide tax incentives to improve energy conservation and efficiency; and increase the supply of American-made energy in environmentally sound ways by opening up deep ocean resources and allow the development of our nation’s oil shale resources.
