Dreier: Action on Energy Should Occur Before Adjournment

July 30, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA), Rules Committee Ranking Republican, voted against an adjournment resolution approved by the Democratic Majority today because he believes Congress must take immediate action to lower the price of gas for working families.  With today’s vote, the House Democratic Leadership voted to take a summer vacation without having done anything to solve the problem of high energy costs.

“House Democrats would rather take a vacation than tackle the tough problems like high energy costs,” Dreier said.  “But the American people will not get a vacation from their pain at the pump.  In fact, many families have had to curtail or cancel their own vacation plans thanks to the lack of solutions being offered by this Congress.  Action on energy should have occurred before we even considered adjourning for a summer break, but that will not happen.  While Republicans have been pushing for a debate on alternative fuels and expanded domestic energy exploration and production, Democrats have sat on their hands and done nothing.  Now, they want to get out of town and abandon their work altogether.  The American people deserve a lot better than they’re getting from this Congress.”
