RSC Policy Brief: School Choice and No Child Left Behind (5/24/07)
In light of the impending reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act, the RSC prepared this Policy Brief on school choice.

Empowering States to Educate Children (3/15/07)
On March 15, Chairman Hensarling joined Congressman Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), and several other members of the RSC, at a press conference announcing the introduction of the Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success Act of 2007 (A-PLUS), which provides flexibility by empowering states to implement child-first initiatives that ensure the efficiency and accountability that parents deserve.  To read Chairman Hensarling’s statement on A-PLUS, please click here, and to read Congressman Hoekstra’s statement, please click here.

President Bush's Competitiveness Initiative (2/21/06)
The President’s fiscal year 2007 budget request includes a new domestic policy initiative, the American Competitiveness Initiative (ACI), which is a combination of new and expanded federal education programs focusing on math and science instruction and increased funding for scientific research and development.  Learn more about ACI in this RSC Policy Brief.

Davis-Bacon Facts and Talking Points
In preparation for House Floor consideration of H.R. 720, Water Quality Financing Act of 2007, the RSC has compiled various facts and talking points to highlight the deleterious effects of the Davis-Bacon law on the free market and job creation.

Secret Ballot Elections and the Minimum Wage
In light of the likely return of minimum wage increase legislation to the House floor, as well as the likely scheduling of legislation next week to limit the ability of workers to cast secret ballots for union representation, the RSC prepared the following two policy briefs: one a backgrounder on the secret ballot (or "card check") issue and one on the arguments conservatives will face regarding the minimum wage increase:

Saving the Private Ballot (2/28/07)
The RSC continued its fight to save the private ballot for workers in union representation drives, by combating H.R. 800, the so-called Employee Free Choice Act.

RSC Chairman calls for minimum wage increase bill to be "jobs-neutral" (7/29/06)
RSC Chairman Pence released this statement in light of increased discussion on the House floor of the federal minimum wage.

House conservatives express opposition to federal minimum wage increase (9/25/06)
41 House conservatives sent this letter to House Leadership, expressing categorical opposition to bringing stand-alone legislation to the House floor this year that would increase the federal minimum wage.

Occupational Fatalities (1/6/06)
In light of the tragic loss of life in the Sage Coal Mine in Tallmansville, WV, and in light of calls for increased federal involvement in the mining industry, RSC compiled data from the Burreau of Labor Statistics on occupational fatalities may be of interest.
