Beloved Crown Heights Rabbi and Wife Murdered in Mumbai Attacks

Rep. Clarke Pays Tribute to Couple; Vows to Continue Anti-terrorism Work

November 28, 2008

Brooklyn, NY. – Today, media reports confirmed that Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg, the beloved directors of Chabad-Lubavitch of Mumbai, were killed during brutal terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India.  Congresswoman Clarke made the following remarks during a media conference at the Lubavitch headquarters in Crown Heights:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife Rivka, two pillars of the Crown Heights community and Lubavitch Hasidic movement.  The hearts and prayers of all of Brooklyn are with their families, especially their son Moshe who thankfully escaped unharmed during the hostage stand-off.”

Rabbi and Rivka Holtzberg were great humanitarians.  Through their work at Chabad House, they touched the lives of many strangers and friends, and their good deeds will be remembered by all of us here in Brooklyn, and indeed by the entire Labavitch community.   Our sympathies go out to them and all those killed or wounded during the cowardly attacks.

“As a member of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, I will continue to work to stamp out terrorism here in US and abroad.”
