Information on the Presidential Inauguration

The inauguration of a U.S. President is a historic occasion. In January of next year, we will witness the swearing-in of the 44th President of the United States of America.

When is the 2009 presidential inaugural swearing-in ceremony?

The 2009 presidential inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2009. The inaugural swearing-in ceremony will be held on the west front of the U.S. Capitol building.

Where can I get tickets to the inauguration?

There are a limited number of tickets available from Senators and Representatives of the 110th Congress.  I will continue to update this website with additional information as we receive it from the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

Residents of the 11th Congressional District of New York who would like to request inauguration tickets, or who have questions, should call my office at 202.225.6231(DC),718.287.1142 (NY) or complete our online contact form with your full name, home and email address, cell phone, and number of tickets requested. Make sure to type “Inauguration Tickets” into the body of the email. Please note that tickets are very limited and we cannot grant all requests. Constituents who do receive tickets will be notified in mid-January.

When will tickets be distributed?

Tickets for the 2009 inauguration will be distributed in January 2009.

Who is responsible for planning the swearing-in ceremony?

Since 1901, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has been responsible for planning the swearing-in ceremonies. You can find additional information on the inauguration at the committee's website inaugural.senate.gov.  You can also subscribe to the Inaugural Committee e-mail list to learn when the website is updated, to receive important notifications about the Swearing-In Ceremony on January 20, 2009, and to get news releases.

Where do I find information on transportation and accommodations in DC?

 

You should make your travel and hotel arrangements as soon as possible.  Transportation information can be found on the House website.   Visit www.washington.org to make hotel and other accommodations.
