Tierney Earns 100% Rating from League of Conservation Voters

Washington, DC– Congressman John F. Tierney (D-MA) scored nearly twice the national average and was one of only 67 Members of the House of Representatives to receive a rating of 100% on the League of Conservation Voters's (LCV's) 2008 National Environmental Scorecard. The LCV scorecard annually evaluates Members of Congress on certain energy and environmental issues.

“I am pleased to have received this rating from the LCV for my record on environmental issues. Over the past year, I have joined my colleagues in the fight to change our status-quo energy policy and better protect the environment and preserve our public lands. Looking ahead, I will continue to press for policies which would provide sustainable solutions to our nation’s comprehensive energy challenges,” said Tierney, a member of the Congressional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus.

Environmental issues are a key concern to all Americans, and especially those in the Sixth District of Massachusetts. Accordingly, Congressman Tierney’s score reflects his pro-environment record on 13 key votes during the second session of the 110th Congress, including, among other things, voting to extend tax credits for clean energy and increasing funding for energy-efficient public transportation.

“LCV congratulates Congressman Tierney for his perfect 100% score,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “In voting in favor of the environment on every key vote in 2007 and 2008, Representative Tierney demonstrated his continued commitment to handling our nation’s most important energy and environmental issues. LCV looks forward to working with him to ensure that the next Congress finally passes vital legislation that tackles climate change and paves the way to a prosperous, clean energy future.”

The League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan organization. The LCV National Environmental Scorecard has been produced annually for the past 30 years. To learn more about the LCV 2008 Scorecard visit: http://www.lcv.org/scorecard.
